On Friday, June 30, 2006 HCDA hosted an emcee battle between local high-school rappers.

Spring 2006 - Hip-Hop Dance Class
This dance class geared towards high school youth was a huge success with weekly attendance averaging 20-25 dancers.

What is the Harambee Community Development Association?

Mission Statement
Harambee Community Development Association (HCDA) is a non-profit organization that exists to provide a holistic approach to community development in South King County (SKC), by providing a "3rd Place" community gathering for the continued physical, mental, emotional and spiritual development of the youth and their families in.

Because of this the HCDA's mission is fourfold:
  1. Provide affordable access to after school programs, as well as, health, fitness and youth sports programs.
  2. Create ways to heal at risk youth and families through counseling and recovery programs.
  3. Build community and racial healing through education, spiritual transformation and the common bonds of community.
  4. Provide a community forum for the expression of the various arts (Film, music, dance, spoken word, debate, open forums, cultural programs and celebrations).
HCDA is a volunteer based non-profit organization, working towards establishing links with schools, churches, athletic teams and other community programs in order to provide and aid the total development of youth and family in South King County. Foundation giving, grants, fundraising, venture capital and fees generate revenue for the non-profit to operate.
